Sleeping on the Job

Bella's "homework" consists of cutting and pasting pictures from her little workbook. She went to town with it the other afternoon and left the back page of the book in shreds... Literally!

I reminded her about 5 times to clean up her mess. A few minutes later I came back to this...

This was a 3 hour nap, very late in the afternoon. She stayed up until 1 in the morning.

That is it! NO MORE NAPS!!!!!!!

Joshua's School Valentine Party

Joshua worked on his Valentines over a couple of days for his school party.
He had fun doing it all himself, and I had fun watching!! The school is a bit of a stickler on the "Healthy Snack" policy, so all we were able to bring for the kids' party was fruits and veggies.
I mean honestly!!! It's Valentine's day... AKA Sugar Buzz day.

Isabella enjoyed "helping" Joshua out...

Joshua and his buddy Jeffrey

I think the Teacher's assistant would agree that Valentine's day is a day to ENJOY all the candy we can possibly eat in one day.

Roots

I was talking to a friend the other day about heritage and ancestors and it reminded me of time a couple years back when I was described by an African American person as
"That African American, red headed girl" :)

Yeah... I know.

But before you just laugh it off, I did a little digging. Turns out I am something like 1/16 black on my father's side.

Kinda funny... For those who have seem me in a bathing suit, would seriously beg to differ.

Valentine's

Typically, Valentine's day is not really one of the holidays that we put much emphasis on as a couple/family.

So imagine my surprise when the door bell rang at 10 in the morning and it was the FedEx guy holding a box with my name.

I looked at him (before I knew there were flowers in the box) and said, "Uh, are you sure this is for me??"(I couldn't remember ordering anything.) He just looked at me and smiled, probably thinking, DUHHHH!!!

I must have been delirious... I mean, it was practically the crack of dawn, but my name was on the sticker, so...

Anyway, I took the box and thanked him, then I realized, "Oh Yeah... it is Valentine's day, isn't it?"

Thanks Love, I really loved the flowers :)

Joshua gave me that stray daffodil. He found it on his way back from the bathroom while we were at the park. So thoughtful!

Later that evening, my awesome sister babysat for us while Dwight and I went on our first date since we've moved to NC. We didn't want to spend a lot of money, so we found a Sonic on the GPS, then went to a movie. We watched 7 pounds, with Will Smith. I have to say, it was a little depressing for a Valentine movie, but it was pretty good nonetheless.
It was SO NICE to be out on a date. I can't wait to ditch the kids again and go out with my honey :D

Kids!

JOSHUA recently has been extra helpful, and one night after I asked him to wipe off the table, he exclaimed... I LOVE CHORES! (We'll see how long that will last, but I am milking it for all it's worth!)

The other night he picked up the toys that were laying around without being asked. Dwight and I made a big deal out of it, and when he was finished, I sat him on my lap and gave him lots of kisses and squished him a real tight hug.
When Isabella noticed all the fuss, she came running, but was intercepted by Dwight who told her, "Wait, this is your brother's turn to get special treatment."
Joshua politely said "...but I don't like mint!? May I have a different treat?"

We kind of looked at him like Hun??? Then all at once started laughing. What a goof!

ISABELLA is our little miss attitude! She came up to me the other day and said... "Mommy, get with the beat!"
At first I wasn't sure how to react, but then I decided to laugh at her. I mean what in the world! I sure as heck don't use that expression. (I prefer to use Freakin')
But it did get me wondering where she heard it.
I should have known... she was watching The Jungle Book for the umpteenth time, when I heard Balloo tell Baguera at the very end of the movie to "get with the tune" as they walked away singing Bare necessities.

I knew there was a reason why I never cared for that movie!!

Show Boats

This weekend our family was privileged to participate in the multi-ward activity to celebrate Black History Month.

I mean, Dwight & the kids participated. I probably would've cracked a few windows if I tried...

The Primary Children were invited to sing "The wise man and the foolish man" and"This little light of mine". Dwight had a mini solo during our ward's choir number. Everyone was very excited about it. Isabella and Joshua had been practicing it all week. They specially like the line "don't let satan... FUUUUU (blowing sound effect) it out, I'm gonna let it shine!"
Bella had her own ideas about the lyrics though.. A couple of times she sang...

"This little light oh my... Imma gonna let it shine"
or "...Don't Let satan, innanout, Imma gonna let it shine"
or "I live under a bushel, NO! Imma gonna let is shine"

Funny Girl! Anyway, I've never seen our primary so lively. We could tell the kids were NOT used to singing with SOUL :)

When It was time for the performance, Joshua did not want to go up to the stage and sing. BUT like any other time, I was very understanding of his performance anxiety, and sent him up anyway. Bella, was up there before they had even finished the announcement.

>>>Click HERE to see the video<<<

Poor Josh, looked so uncomfortable and like he was ready to cry... So, like any understanding mother would do, I told him to stay up there and squeeze himself between two bigger kids in the middle of the crowd.

It worked... He stayed up there and mouthed the words a little :D I was so Proud!

Isabella on the other hand... Front and Center... Well, almost. You could hear the adults in the crowd going, "AWWWWW" and "Bless her heart" and my Southern favorite, "Oh Have Mercy".

She was also very proud of herself. She yelled out mid-song, "I'm singing it!!"

When the performance was over, they got lots of compliments. Bella being so humble and all would say... It was EASY!!"
What a little ham! Gotta get that girl's mother to teach her some manners!

Dwight did fantastic with his mini-solo. He was excited about it. The choir did VERY well. Lots of talented people!
We had fun...
You know what I mean, in ward activities, you NEVER know what's going to happen, specially when your kids are part of the entertainment!

Tagged: 25 Random Things about me

A bunch of people tagged me with this on Facebook, so I figured I could share this here too for posterity.

Ok, so read mine and then do your own...

1. I am cranky and Impatient a lot.

7. My kids are awesome and I love them so much. Losing them is my worst fear.
8. I can't watch others gag, or throw up, or I will do the same.
9. I get VERY offended by farts, burps, nose picking, and other stuff you should do in the privacy of your own bathroom. I have my father to thank for that... my favorite quote of his "Respect my nose!"
10. I make my bed right before I go to sleep. I can't stand to sleep in a messy bed. Yuck.
11. I'm not ashamed of being Mormon, or LDS, or whatever you want to call us.
12. I HATE to cook. That doesn't mean I can't and that confuses people... I hate the process from beginning to end. I also don't like it when someone tries to convert me to cooking. I do like it when they share ways to make cooking as easy as possible.
13. Most days I am embarrassed to drive my BRAND NEW, COOL LOOKING, NAVY BLUE, ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES mini van. I feel like I am driving a bus. A sacrifice I made for the sake of the children... see how much I love them? It is nice though...
